Ankhu Khola 2 Hydropower Project (20MW)

Ankhu Khola-2 Hydroelectric Project (AK2HEP) is a Run of River (RoR) type project with installed capacity of 20.00 MW. AK2HEP is being developed by Ganesh Himal Hydropower Limited (GHHL). The AK2HEP utilizes a design discharge of 27.73 m³/s from Ankhu khola with a gross head of 91 m. The AK2HEP’s headwork site is located downstream of the confluence of Aphal Khola and Ankhu Khola, while the powerhouse site is proposed at the right bank of the Ankhu Khola upstream from the confluence of Baguwa Khola and Ankhu Khola. The Ankhu-2 project area lies between co-ordinates 84°59'30'' E, 84°56'01'' W, 28°03'59'' N and 28°01'15'' S. Ankhu-2 HEP’s generation license was awarded in B.S. 12/12/2079 (26th March, 2023) while PPA with NEA was concluded on B.S. 22/05/2080 (8th September, 2023). The major components of the project include headworks, intake, desander, headrace tunnel, headrace pipe, surge tank, penstock pipe, powerhouse and tailrace. All major components of the project are proposed on the right bank of Ankhu Khola.

Accessibility to Project Site

Rural Municipalities: Khaniyabas, Gangajamuna, Netrawati – Dhading District, Province- 3 and 115 km NW of Kathmandu; 30 km NE of Dhading Besi.

Ankhu Khola-2 HEP’s current progress updates are as below:

  • Feasibility Study completed by PNET in 2019.
  • Updated Feasibility Study by PNET in 2021.
  • Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) has been approved in 19/04/2079 B.S. Principle approval for Revised IEE has been obtaineed in 18/12/2082.
  • Generation License has been obtained 12/12/2079 B.S.
  • Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with NEA has been concluded in 22/05/2080 B.S.
  • Detailed Geological investigation as well as survey works of headworks, waterway and powerhouse via appointing ITECO-RIMC JV consultants is completed (as a pre-requisite to projectu2019s detail design work) in June 2025.
  • Equity for the project has been managed and financial closure related meetings/discussion with banks including with Sanima Bank, Prime Commercial Bank, etc. are ongoing at the moment.
  • Units Engineering Consultancy Pvt. Ltd. has been appointed for Technical DDA by bank for financial closure purpose in December, 2025.
  • 69 ropanis of land has been acquired at site for constructing camps and bunker for storing explosives for the projectu2019s work.
  • 3.87 ropanis of private land required for headworks area and 39.5 ropanis of private land acquired for headrace pipe allignment area.
  • Duration for Financial Closure has been extended by one year and is valid till 11.12.2083.
  • Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been concluded with Nepal Army for Explosive Management and usage purposes in January, 2026.
  • Draft Detailed Engineering Design and Tender Document Report has been obtained in October, 2025.
  • Civil and HM works contract has been awarded to Fewa/Artec JV in March, 2026.
  • EM Tender Document Preparation Work is in progress. (Ongoing works)
  • Application for Approval for Procurement of Explosive has been applied in respective regulatory bodies. (Ongoing works)
  • Revised IEE work is in progress. (Ongoing works)
  • Preconstruction work is being carried out by contractor. (Ongoing works)
  • Preconsortium meeting with bank is in progress for finanlizing terms and conditions for financial closure purpose. (Ongoing works)
